Our Mission: To Promote Health, Fitness & Unity within the Delaware Valley Tri-State Filipino Community through Sports.
What is FACAA? FACAA stands for Filipino American Community Athletic Association. Our goal is "To promote health, fitness, and unity within the tri-state Filipino community through sports."
In the spring of 1995, Willie Encarnacion, with the collaboration of Addie Limuaco and Ray Arcangel, aggressively pursued the formation of FACAA.
Players in the league come from all areas within the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The players' age range from sixteen to the late thirties, the majority of whom are in the late teens to the mid twenties. We've got full time students, part time students, blue collar workers as well as white collar workers. Our members are representative of the whole Filipino community in the tri-state area. We have the highest concentration of young professionals and students. We have doctors, lawyers, nurses , policemen , accountants , teachers , businessmen - we even had a Judge!
Games were held at the Houseman Recreation Center in Northeast Philadelphia during the 1995-1998 seasons. We moved to the Samuel Fels Senior High School in 1999 on Devereux St. and now to the new Samuel Fels High School on Langdon St. in 2011.
In 1999, FACAA gained national attention when we hosted the 12th Annual NABA (North American Basketball Association) All-Filipino Tournament. Eighteen cities participated from the United States and Canada. Over 950 basketball players from several divisions competed in the Labor Day weekend tournament held at La Salle University. Total attendance in the weekend event reached 5,000 according to officials.
We are not just a basketball league, we are an athletic organization. Since 1995, we've had softball games, tennis camps for children, basketball clinics, martial arts, golf outings and volleyball. We also have special events such as skiing/snowboarding and bowling.
